CRL87-61 is one of a series of nonionic block copolymers which are being developed for use in human and animal medicine. Recent studies have suggested that this compound holds potential as a growth promoter in broiler chickens. Our report details results of further investigation of the efficacy of copolymer CRL87-61 as a growth promoter in broilers. The study consisted of independent field trials in Colorado, Maryland and Mississippi. Results confirmed that CRL87-61 is a growth promoter in broilers: a dietary level of 10 ppm caused an average increase of 2.85% in 42 day body weights, an average improvement of 1.66% in feed conversion, and an average decrease of 0.31% in mortality rate when compared to untreated (control) birds. Improved production parameters were also noted when birds fed 10 ppm of CRL87-61 were compared to broilers that received Bacitracin only.
