The allocation of resources for maintenance, growth, reproduction, and health is a dynamic throughout the life of an animal. Resources are finite, and where allocations are directed is a function of an individuals genetic background, stage in the life cycle, and environmental challenges. Included in this paper are discussions of the concept of resource allocation with examples from experiments.
