Four preproduction lighting regimes were assessed to determine their effects on reproductive performance of broiler breeder males and females. These regimes, given in hours light:dark (L:D), were 4:20L:D, 6:18L:D, 8:16L:D (standard), and 10:14L:D. All birds were exposed to a 15:9L:D regime at 20 weeks of age. Rearing birds on the 4:20L:D regime resulted in a delay of sexual maturity of both males and females and also decreased egg production and increased body weight in the females. There were no differences in reproductive performance of males and females reared on the other three lighting regimes.
