Photoperiodic Effects on Performance and Other Traits of Meat Turkeys: A Review

Production of turkeys and consumption of turkey products has incrased dramatically in the United States during the past decade. During this same period, phenomenal changes in growth rates and other performance traits of turkeys have been achieved due to research and adoption of new technology. Studies of the effects of lighting programs on performance levels, leg abnormalities, carcass composition, and behavior of commercial turkeys have indicated that photoperiod may play a significant role in traits of economic importance.
